Magazine cover process

The process of producing our film magazine, 'Motion'.

This is the film strip we first going to use to showcase up coming movies, but we eventually decided to produce our own. So this will be the sell line giving audience extra information about what is included in the magazine, enticing them.
This is our second sell line which is in a circle, this highlights the main featuring film which this issue is based on. The circle used just makes it stand out more and clear to the audience what the big feature is.

From previous research we chose the famous big masthead which grabs the audiences attention, we chose the colour gold as it connotes first place and being a winner which is what we want our magazine to come across as, being the best film magazine there can be.

The strap line just gives that audience a little bit more insight in to what is to come, everyone loves an exclusive!

We used another strapline which is slanted in the top right hand corner, little bits of information give away like 'behind the scenes' is what draws the audience in, so by giving them that little bit more it is encouraging them to buy it. The price is placed between the top of the 'M' where its less noticeable as we don't want the price to be a put off.

For our magazine poster we wanted to use something which could feature upcoming films, we decided to go for a film strip because this is a huge association to film. We wanted to create our own, so by looking at one of the internet, this is what I produced by using shapes on word.

This is the finished film strip that was produced. We then decided we were going to make five films to put in our film strip which could feature in our magazine as 'coming soon'.
The first film we decided to make was a Christmas film as our magazine is a December issue, Chloe and I decided to call it 'Santa Baby'. By using font space we chose this font, mainly because of the Santa hats and chose red as this is a connotation of Christmas and Santa in his big red suit.

By adding the title to an image of Father Christmas in a sort of postcard looking frame we came up with this for our first film to go into the film strip.

This is the second film we produced, but luckily this is what we produced last year for AS so we thought it would be quite good to include it in our magazine as a new film and inserted it into our film strip.

This is what our film strip began to look like with the first two films in it.

For our third film we thought we would produce a RomCom called '10 ways to say goodbye', we chose an appropriate font of FontsSpace which was girly and the type of font you would see in a love letter.
This was what we came up with, we chose blue as it has connotations of the sky and the sea, areas of land which are big and free which represents how the character wants to feel as she is saying goodbye.

We then chose this image to use for the rest of the film, we inserted '10 ways to say...' above the goodbye.

For our forth film we decided to chose an action called 'Shot Wound', we chose a slanted, bold font which slightly reflects someone running, we thought this would be good as it connotes fast pace and lots of action.

For the image to go with the title 'Shot Wound' we picked a black and white silhouette as it does not give the character away and fits really well with our title.

Lastly we chose an animation film called 'Jungle Jingle' because our film magazine does not just stick to one type of film genre and the audience would enjoy the variety of different films. We chose orange and green as they are bright colours representing fun.

This is our nearly finished film strip with all the films inserted.

This is our finished magazine.

These images below are from another photoshoot we did today, this one is for the magazine front cover. Josh and Jamie are obviously being photographed as they are the main characters in the film and Chloe and I were directing, sorting the lighting, positions and taking the photos and video footage.

The three shots below are very similar. We had quite a clear idea of what we wanted for the magazine cover from the start. We decided to include both characters in the image because we thought we could show the contrast between the two, we have done this through facial expression, height and obviously character costume. Jamie and Josh's costumes show a definite contrast as Josh's character who was very academic at school wears glasses, a unique shirt, black smart trousers and pointy shoes where as Jamie's character is very subdued and follows his group of friends rather than being an obvious individual. This is shown in his outfit, with a plain black jumper and grey jogging bottoms, it is nothing that will stand out from the crowd, nothing out of the ordinary.

The image above is the final image for our magazine poster, we chose this one because we liked the contrast in costume and height, but also we like how their facial expressions have been captured. Jamie has his head slightly tilted with a very stern expression on his face, he looks dominant and slightly aggressive where as Josh's head is turned more towards to the camera, he has purposely left his mouth slightly open as it makes him look like this confused character, he looks kind of uncertain in himself, much more timid.
